Naples has genuine nesting beaches, and enforcement is real.
Designing to that is not a compromise, it is just a different palette. Amber light is warm and flattering on coquina, stucco and palm trunks, and low shielded fixtures throw the kind of grazing light that makes texture read. The schemes we like best on the Gulf side are the ones the ordinance pushed us toward.

Associations, Review Boards and Getting It Approved
In Pelican Bay, Park Shore, Grey Oaks, the Moorings and most of the gated communities east of the Trail, the lighting has to be approved before it is installed, and the boards are detailed about fixture finish, mounting height, colour temperature and how much light crosses a property line. That is not an obstacle if the submission is prepared properly. It becomes one when a contractor installs first and asks later.

Storm Season on the Gulf Coast
Southwest Florida's exposure to storm surge is not theoretical — Hurricane Ian in September 2022 made that plain across Collier County, and a great many coastal lighting systems went with it. What survives is what was sited with surge in mind: transformers mounted high and clear rather than at grade behind a hedge, fixtures on exposed elevations mounted so they can be pulled quickly, and connections sealed properly so a system that went under can be brought back rather than written off.
